VOXI, the minimally branded mobile network, was launched in August 2017 by Vodafone to appeal to Millenials and Generation Z. To start, it positioned itself as a separate network specifically for younger customers though it soon removed upper age limits to appeal to a broader base. VOXI offers a unique package of unlimited social media data alongside free minutes and calls. There are no call centres or physical stores, it’s all done online. Want to know if VOXI is the right network provider for you? Our guide to all the pros, cons, and VOXI sim and mobile deals is below.
As VOXI is backed by Vodafone, customers can expect pretty wide coverage. Vodafone has won industry awards for the extent of its 4G network, which also extends to 120 destinations abroad. Use VOXI’s coverage checker to see the quality of coverage you can get indoors and outdoors, alongside coverage of European destination.
Handsets on offer
VOXI offers a good range of handsets from popular suppliers like Huawei, Apple, Sony, and Samsung. Customers get a choice of paying for the handset in full outright or breaking the payment down into monthly payments over 30 months. VOXI stock all the flagships one expects to find with a smaller selection of mid-range models from the likes of Sony and Huawei. Anyone not looking for the latest release will be happy to hear that VOXI have a few older iPhones on offer too.
There’s also the option of a 0% interest on monthly payments meaning that customers won’t be paying any more in total. VOXI uses PayPal Credit, so making additional payments and reducing the length of the term easy.
VOXI doesn’t lock you into the network and is one of only two providers (the other is giffgaff) that are happy for you to roam free once the initial 30-day plan is up. if you wish to switch when the 30 days is up, you can request a Number Unlock Code (NUC) and switch to another provider. This is great for anyone who likes to stay on top of the latest deals and wishes to switch often in order to save some cash.
VOXI mobile deals and plans
The deals and plans on offer by VOXI are in line with its branding – minimal. You get a choice of three plans which are all on a 30-day flexible contract with no hidden cancellation fees. Every tariff comes with free texts, calls and unlimited data for certain social and chat apps. Included in the social app data offering are Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Pinterest, Viber, Facebook Messenger, and Snapchat; using these as much as you want won’t eat into your 30-day data allowance.
The three deals are differentiated by data; there’s a 6GB, 15GB or 45GB options to choose from. An extra 1GB can be purchased each month if you find yourself short together with streaming passes to watch YouTube, Prime Video, Netflix or listen to Apple Music or Spotify, without it all taking away from your data allowance.
Existing Vodafone customers can join VOXI straight away through their site while everyone else will need to apply and wait to be sent a free VOXI SIM in the post. Additionally, anyone not currently with Vodafone will need to obtain a PAC code to transfer their number. The process can take up to two days though you should check if you’ll need to unlock your handset by your current provider before you can use the SIM. This will obviously draw out the process so do it well ahead of time if you want to join VOXI.
As we already mentioned, VOXI has digitised all its services so you won’t be able to pop into a store or call up an agent if you have an issue. You’ll be able to communicate with customer services through social media and webchats from 7am to midnight every day. Many will find this option preferable anyway, but it won’t be for those who like speaking with a person directly.
Is VOXI mobile right for you?
VOXI’s social first approach will naturally appeal to social media lovers. The simplicity and flexibility of its three deals are likely to attract a lot of customers. The option of getting a pay monthly handset without being tied to a network is particularly great.
VOXI isn’t completely unique when it comes to separating out social media usage from the rest of data – Virgin Media allows customers to use Twitter, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger without detracting data from the main allowance. There’s also Three’s feature Go Binge, which gives customers unlimited streaming data for apps like Apple Music and Netflix, potentially resulting in even bigger savings.
