The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is the bigger brother of the Galaxy S9 and packs a superb bunch of features, including a huge Infinity Display screen, slow-motion video, and a cracking camera among others.

Although it’s been replaced by the Galaxy S10 as the flagship Samsung model, it remains a top-quality phone. On the other hand, this means you can grab this top of the range phone at a wallet-friendly price.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Specs

  • Size: 158.1 x 73.8 x 8.5 mm
  • Weight: 189 grams
  • Screen: Quad HD+ Super AMOLED
  • Display: 6.2 inches
  • Resolution: 1440 x 2960 pixels
  • Processor: 64-bit Octa-Core Exynos 9810 Processor
  • RAM: 6GB
  • Storage: 128GB (expandable up to 512GB)
  • Operating System: Android Oreo 8.0
  • Cameras: Dual-aperture rear 12MP camera, single 8MP front camera
  • Battery: 3500mAh

Design and screen:

Samsung has largely stuck to the tried and tested design that they introduced way back in 2017, and for good reason – it just works. The few changes they have made improve the toughness of the design by reducing the bezel and improving the Gorilla Glass coating, so it can better withstand daily use. The phone comes in 7 different colours, depending on where you buy it – Lilac Purple, Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue, Sunrise Gold, Burgundy Red, & Polaris Blue.

The screen is a 6.2-inch AMOLED which really packs a punch. Offering stunning brightness and a pin-sharp resolution, this phone feels more than comfortable enough to watch everything from a quick YouTube clip to the latest movies. And with its curved edge Infinity Display, you won’t miss anything!

Performance and processor:

The Galaxy S9 Plus remains one of the best Android mobile phones on the market and this is backed up by its performance. Combining its top of the range processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage, the performance of this phone will please almost everyone.

Apps and games open quickly and play smoothly without dropping frames or lagging. You won’t find any slowdown and swiping between screens runs smoothly.

Samsung is billing the Galaxy S9 Plus as the ‘ultimate media machine.' With its finely tuned AKG Dolby Atmos surround sound and excellent screen, they offer an immersive experience beyond most other devices. The sound quality here is noticeably better than most other phones in this generation, and it still retains the headphone jack, unlike similar phones.

Already packed with incredible features, the camera on the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is the cherry on top. The phone includes a new 12MP camera with dedicated RAM inside the sensor to help speed things up.

The biggest selling point here may be that the camera has a moving aperture to help catch the perfect photo. Unlike most other phones where the aperture is fixed, the lens on the S9 Plus can move between f/1.5 and f/2.4. Essentially this means that depending on the light quality, it can move between the two apertures to give you the perfect shot.

The phone also includes a new super slow-motion mode, as well as the AR Emoji mode. The camera here mimics your facial expressions to create an emoji of yourself.

The Galaxy S9 Plus comes with a huge battery inside which should be more than enough to give you a full day’s worth of life. Unless you’re a power user, you’ll only find yourself charging this at night, and if you find that you need a little more juice, you can play with the energy settings to get more from it.

You can charge the phone using the USB-C port at the bottom, but it also offers wireless charging through a QI-enabled charging pad.

Price & release date: The phone is out now and is available at a range of prices depending on the retailer, however, it generally starts at around £869 SIM-free.
