Design and screen:

The iPhone 8 Plus represents the final farewell for the traditional iPhone design that includes the Home button. However, the phone is aiming to go out with a bang with the inclusion of the glass back, which creates a two-tone effect and enables wireless charging for the first time on an iPhone. The phone comes in three lovely colours – Gold, Silver, and Space Grey.

The glass back is flat and curves nicely into the edge of the phone, fitting comfortably into your hand. The glass is robust and scratch-resistant and will stand up to the wear and tear of daily life.

The screen comes in at 5.5 inches and the outstanding feature here is the True Tone display, which uses the phone sensors to gauge the temperature of the ambient light and match the white balance of the onscreen colours. This gives you a better viewing experience regardless of your environment. The display also has a wide colour gamut which makes everything on the screen looks more brilliant and vibrant. It also includes dual-domain pixels which gives you a great view of the screen from almost any angle.

Performance and processor:

The iPhone 8 Plus is probably the best performer of its generation, standing out against its competitor flagships by miles. The A11 Bionic chip inside makes it incredibly quick, allowing you to switch between apps or play the latest games without any lag at all. It’s a multitasking beast that probably has more power than the average user will need.

The power in this phone is partly for the new augmented reality features and it’s easy to see why. The AR technology does some truly astonishing things, attaching virtual graphics and objects to the real world. The opportunities here are endless and there are a range of applications already on the market that can entertain and assist in your daily tasks.

Whether you’re a gamer, power user, or just a social media browser, this phone has power for whatever you can throw at it.

Camera:

The two 12MP cameras in this phone are a big step up, generously helped by the A11 bionic chip. The cameras are designed to retain greater texture and depth to make images look as sharp as possible and give you better photos than ever before. This is certainly an upgrade on the previous iPhone, and it also comes with portrait mode, which adds blur for even better depth-of-focus.

If you’re a budding photographer, then you will absolutely love the impressive editing suite that comes with the iPhone 8 Plus. Making use of Live Photos, you can use Loop, Bounce and Long Exposure when playing with the effects. It also comes with a range of inbuilt filters, as well as HDR capabilities.

Elsewhere, the autofocus means that you get crystal clear photos, and its low light performance means you can get great photos regardless of lighting conditions. Basically, you should expect to get some amazing photos with the iPhone 8 Plus.

Charging:

The Apple iPhone 8 Plus gives you a battery that will last all day long. From your day-to-day tasks such as texting and browsing social media, taking photos or playing some of the less graphic-intensive games, then you’ll get more than a day out of the phone.

Handily, the phone supports fast charging, but you’ll need to buy a dedicated cable in order to take advantage of up to 50% charge in half an hour. It also includes wireless charging, and while it is not as fast as wired charging, it’s good for just popping your phone up and down on the go.
